That’s a well-written review, I thought. A good conventional structure, the praise for the book appears well-earned (I haven’t read it), the line of critique appropriate and interesting.

Yes, I think praise should be earned, not sought out simply because it needs to be included to fit the form-critical requirements of a good review.
